Abstract

This research  aims to determine the role of family labor in its economic contribution to devote time and efforts on raising cattle. Methods This research uses survey methods. Object of research is the Bali cattle ranchers in the farmer groups in the village of Bright Surya Jaya Regency Tanjung Jabung Makmur West. Respondents of this  research  of 12 families who acquired purposive sampling, with the following criteria: cattle that are a venture capital fund amplifier (PMU) (first-year period 2006-2010), a semi-intensive system maintenance and return patterns of a back one. The analysis used is deskriptiv analysis. To find the outpouring of work hours is to use the calculation of the number of hours worked in the maintenance of the outpouring of cattle based on equality unit of Manpower Equivalent Man (TKSP). Contribution of labor in the calculation of income from cattle using analysis of percentage (%). While the analysis of income from cattle using analysis of income. Results of analysis showed, that the maintenance of cattlefrom 12 families (100%) is still a side business, including the category of the pattern of family farming, with cattle ownership on average 4.63 ST / breeder. In maintaining cattle ranchers are still in the average age of 45.08 (25-60) years including labor that is still productive age, and can devote his time of 3.9975 million JKP / period, the economic value of Rp.199.837.500, - / period. While revenues without raising cattle farmer labor contribution is Rp. 185 640 925,-period, so the total revenue obtained from rearing cattle is Rp. 385,478,425, -/periode. Based on the analysis of the value of the economic contribution of labor in cattle revenues amounted Rp.199.837.500, -/periode or for 51.84% of total revenue. Thus the contribution of labor income of beef cattle farmers in the relatively larger than the non-contribution income cattle labor by 48.16% of the total income of cattle.

Abstract

This research was conducted  to determine the  quality and proportion of Y-spermatozoa with more fraction of egg white and storage period. The experimental method with completely Randomized Design base on Factorial consist  of two factor were used. The first factor was F  (egg white) consist of level f1 = 5  and 25 %;  f2 = 10  and 30 %; f3 = 15  and 35 %; and second factor is L (strorage period) consist of level l0 = 0 hours; l2 = 2 hours; l4 = 4 hours. Each treatment was replicated four times. The variable measured were  motility(%), live spermatozoa (%), abnormality (%), and proportion of Y-spermatozoa.  The results showed that fraction and storage period had no significant interaction       (P > 0.05) on the all variable. The   effect fraction of  egg white showed no significant (P > 0.05) difference on percentages motility, live spermatozoa, and abnormality. However the fraction showed significant (P < 0.05) on difference   proportion of Y-spermatozoa. The effect of storage period showed highly significant (P < 0.01) difference on motility and significant (P < 0.05) difference on  live spermatozoa. However, the storage periode showed no significant (P > 0.05) difference on abnormality, and proportion of Y-spermatozoa. Kept of spermatozoa for four hours product mean of motility 61.67 percent, live spermatozoa 63.25 percent, consentration were 932.54 ± 76.34 million spermatozoa/ml of semen, while albumen fraction of f2 (10  and 30 %) gave the highest result in motility and live spermatozoa : 71.67 and 74.79 %, respectively.

Abstract

Meat is animal origin food and serve as a source of animal protein for human nutrition. High demand for meat is not always followed by improvement of facilities and condition in slaughterhouses. This study was conduncted to examine the relationship between the implementation of the Standard Sanitation Operational Procedure (SSOP) at Slaughterhouse to the level of microbial contamination in meat. Random sampling was arranged  on a population of livestocks owned by five merchants at Pekanbaru City Slaughterhouse,  three heads respectively. Carcass parts analyzed microbially were Bicepfemoris (BF) and Longissimus dorsi lumbarum (LD). The variables  observed were the evaluation of the application of SSOP, establishment number and microbiological analysis (total plate count, E. coli, Coliform and Salmonella). The results showed that  SSOP evaluation from eighteen characteristics implemented was 54.65%,  and the assessment establishment number deviations indicate that there were 57 minor, 35 major, 14 serious and 8 critical (pre establishment number level). Below maximum implementation of SSOP, closely related to the high level of microbial contamination in  meat. Microbial analysis results (TPC, E.coli and Coliform) showed above the maximum limit set by the Indonesian National Standard (INS  3932:2008), while for Salmonella analysis was negative. In conclusion,  the application of SSOP in Pekanbaru City Slaughterhouse was not implemented well as shown by establishment number and  high level of microbiological contamination (TPC, E.coli and coliform).

Abstract

This research was conducted  to reveal the effect of the Gibberellins concentration  (GA3) on the content of crude protein (CP), acid detergent fiber (ADF) and neutral detergent fiber (NDF) of Calopogonium caeruleum. The design of experiment was the Completely Randomized Design (CRD) in factorial arrangement. The first factors were the concentrations of GA3 namely 0, 100, 200, 300, 400 and 500 ppm, for G0,G1, G2, G3, G4, and G5 respectively and the second factors were the soaking time at 6, 12 and 24 h, for T1, T2 and T3 respectively. Each treatment has three replications. The results showed that there were not significant (P< 0.05) effect of the concentration of GA3 on the content of CP, ADF and NDF of Calopogonium caeruleum

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of various thawing temperatures to the sperm quality of FH dairy cow frozen semen. The experimental design used was completely randomized design (CRD) with 5 treatments and 5 replications . The thawing treatments were  30 seconds at 33 0C (P1), 35 0C (P2), 37 0C (P3), 39 0C (P4), 41 0C (P5) . Observed variables were sperm motility, viability and recovery rate . Data were analyzed using analysis of variance . The results showed that different thawing temperatures affect the motility , viability, recovery rate of frozen spermatozoa (P<0.05). Motility and  recovery rate of P4 was higher (P< 0.05)  than P2 , P1 and P5  , but did not differ (P>0.05) with P3 . Viability of P4  was higher (P>0.05)  than P1 and P5  but did not differ (P>0.05) with P2 and P3.  In conclusion , thawing at 39 0c and 37 0C for 30 seconds had best semen quality of FH frozen semen.

Abstract

The objectiveof this study was to studythe characteristics of dendeng batokok that made with different duration of fumigationand the use of coconut shell, medang sawdust and rice husk as smoke material. Smokedduration was conducted during each 30, 60 and  90 minutes. Parameters observed during research were organoleptic attributes (colour, texture, aroma and taste). Theexperimental design used complete randomized design (CRD) with three replications. Nonparametric data of organoleptic tests processed statistically by Kruskal-Wallis method. Data processing using the program Minitab 15 version. The results ofthis study indicatethat; 1) the selected of dendeng batokok with the highest average value is 60 minutes for coconut shell smoking during, 90 minutes for medang sawdust smoking medang and  90 minutes for rice husk smoking, (2) the use of beef and buffalo meat with smoking coconut shell, medang sawdust and rice husk showed no real difference on organoleptic characteristics.
